I’m Briar Old a queer illustrator and writer focused on storytelling through visual imagery. My work is built upon narrative work told through both explicit and subtle storytelling, typically tackled through flawed human-like characters. This is explored alongside fantastical deep worlds that allow for whimsy within these stories.

Creating this work for a younger me, something I wish I had seen growing up or would have enjoyed at the least.

When creating this work, it comes to me most often through the way that I originally got into drawing and creating imagery, through doodling in the margins of my schoolbooks.

This messy but nostalgic feel is something that acts as a level of a driving force behind my imagery. I want my imagery to invoke a feeling of being back in a time where drawing was something for fun, you could do what you want and were free to just exist without the constraints of life. This idea of exploring the nostalgic and fun elements of visual design is important to my practice, looking at things through a lens of the medias in which I grew up with and created as its basis.
